Replacement Pastry

I love a good sugar fix in the morning. However, I can't quite get on board with scarfing down a 400 calorie breakfast that's void of all nutrition {I'm looking at YOU, brown sugar cinnamon Pop Tarts!}. I discovered a fantastic replacement that doesn't leave me feeling guilty for indulging a little. Special K Pastry Crisps are a godsend. They're sweet, crunchy, and delicious. Plus, they're only 100 calories per pack {thats 2 yummy crisps for just 100 cals}. Next time you're in the cereal/juice aisle at the grocery store, pick up some of these bad boys. You {and your taste buds} will be glad you did!

{I highly recommend the brown sugar cinnamon variety}

Old Salem

A few days ago, my Darling Fiance and I took a stroll through Old Salem. The well preserved town is very charming! The little shops all along Main Street are small and inviting. The trees had just begun to change in color as Fall fell. It was a perfect way to spend a weekend afternoon.

The {very} Talented Timree

Artist Timree Gold holds a special place in my heart {and home}. Timree's work was first introduced to me by a close family friend. Timree is from my hometown and her specialty is personalized and custom gifts. Two of my {very special} life events were celebrated with gifts designed by Timree. Her painting style is girly, charming, and captures people's memories and favorite things perfectly. These two gifts were very much in keeping with my style! They are sleek, girly, and absolutely adorable.

{When I pledged Pi Beta Phi at Purdue University, my mother gave me a porcelain box {to hold my badge and pledge pin}}

{Five years later, one of my Maids of Honor celebrated my engagement by giving me a ring dish {which reads, "...and she lived happily every after."}}

You can check out all of Timree's work on her website!

Words of {Fashion} Wisdom

{Take Vivienne Westwood's advice to heart}

Working in a boutique is very fun. I feel like I play dress up all day and I absolutely love it. Being around clothes, shoes, and accessories all day has reaffirmed my personal stance on fashion: Spend the money and splurge on good basics and cheap out save your pennies when it comes to the trends. When adding nicer garments to your wardrobe, spend a little more and invest in higher quality pieces. A few staples are:

{a tailored white shirt}

{a black pencil skirt}

{a little black dress with a classic silhouette}

{dark denim jeans}

{a strand of pearls}

{black pumps}

When it comes to trendier items, opt for a less expensive version. Don't spend a lot on things like:

Save your money. You can find all the swanky digs at Forever 21. They'll wear out just as the trend does.

My Ladybug Kitchen

Ever since I was a baby, my nickname has been Ginna Bug {or just Bug}. Given my moniker, it is fitting that ladybugs have been a decorative staple in my life. As a result, my kitchen has developed a ladybug theme. The ladybug kitchen happened by accident, in fact. I originally wanted my kitchen to have a yellow motif. Then, over the years, I began receiving ladybug kitchen accessories and it developed {quite naturally} into the perfect ladybug kitchen.

{It all began with my ladybug lunch box}

{Then, my sweet friend gave me my ladybug apron as a birthday gift}

{Darling Fiance recently gave me my ladybug teapot}

{My sweet parents spotted my ladybug spatula at The Greenbrier {of all places} and felt I absolutely had to have it - they were right!}

{My sister in law, Amy, gave me an adorable ladybug inspired wine glass. Read her blog about becoming a new mother here!}

{And so on}

Long Hair Problems

I have an abundance of hair. It's not terribly thick, there's just a dense amount of it. I like to keep my hair on the longer side, but when it gets to a certain length, I find myself becoming easily annoyed. It takes too long to dry or I run out of ideas on how to style it. So, for the past week or so {more like 12 days straight} I have been rocking a rock bun. This hairstyle is all over Pinterest and I love it! It is so easy and makes an impact. It jazzes up my look and I'm not even required to dry my hair all the way before putting it up! All you need is a hair tie, a sock with the toe cut off, and some hairspray. I followed these steps:

Heirloom Engagement Ring

My engagement ring is very special to me. Like many girls, I had come down with Engagement Fever a handful of months before my Darling Fiance popped the question. I had looked all over Pinterest at beautiful engagement rings and even tried on a few with a girlfriend {that was a very fun afternoon}. In my head, I had pictured wearing a simple, traditional solitaire diamond ring as an engaged lady. However, my Darling Fiance had different plans for my ring finger. In March of 2012, he got down on one knee and presented me with his great grandmother's engagement ring from the thirties. It had already been sized for my {tiny} hand and it was perfect! Having an heirloom ring of my own, I have been noticing them more and more lately. I was tinkering around on Anthrpologie's BHLDN site a few weeks back and did a double-take when I saw a ring that was shockingly similar to my own engagement ring! I put the image below on Twitter :)

{I always liked Anthropologie. Am I their muse for BHLDN?!}

Cardio

I loathe running. It hurts my ankles and I get bored {very} quickly. When I need to do some cardio, I opt for a long walk {and chat} with a girlfriend or a visit to the elliptical machine at the gym. However, I believe that the best cardio is a dance party in the comfort of your own living room. I recently got my workout on with Destiny's Child. Maybe you will, too?

A Bear After My Own Heart

I've shared how much I love my polar bear, Mr. Bear. I've also shared my love of naps. When I saw this darling Pinterest pin, I knew it had to go on my "For the home" board immediately. Winnie The Pooh, you're a bear after my own heart and I couldn't love these words of yours more.

Thanksgiving Tradition

This is my second Thanksgiving as an engaged gal. When my Darling Fiance and I decided to spend forever together, I wanted to be sure to incorporate each of our family's traditions into the holidays. Sweet potatoes are incredibly important to my Darling Fiance. His only request for Thanksgiving has been to serve his mother's sweet potato recipe. So, for the past few Turkey Days, I've done just that. I asked his mother for her recipe and they have been my contribution to Thanksgiving dinner every year since.

Bridal Shower Ensemble

For my November Bridal Shower, I opted for a comfortable, weather appropriate outfit. So many of the dresses I liked were sleeveless! Let's be honest, a bare arm is not all that appropriate for a late-Fall event. I opted for a long-sleeve wine colored dress. I'll pair it with a chunky hammered gold necklace and some fun pumps. I found my entire outfit at the fabulously chic Monkee's of the Village.

Precious Mommy Moments

My mother is a character. She is a quintessential little hostess and loves to entertain. Her hair is as big as her heart. She appreciates a fine Pinot Noir as much as a good {Texas} barbecue sandwich. Lately, she has been a big aid in getting my wedding registry in order. As you can see from the email thread below, she is {very} excited and equally helpful! Her use of {shouty} caps lock perfectly conveys her excitement and appreciation of kitchen appliances.

{Oh, Mommy Pants. You're so cute.}

The Perfect Lip Balm

I am a Chap-Stick girl. I don't like lip gloss and tend to shy away from lipstick most of the time. However, I feel prettier when my lips have a touch of color on them. I am happy to report that after much trial and error {and many dollars wasted}, I have found the perfect lip balm. It is Maybelline's Baby Lips. It feels like Chap-Stick, but with that bit of color to liven up your pout. Stop by CVS and pick some up!

Coveting Kate Spade

Kate Spade has come a {very} long way from her angular, nylon purse.
{you remember this bad boy}

Her brand has a whole new look and vibe. Here are a few things of Kate's that I'm currently coveting:

A perfect hostess gift; just add a bottle of your favorite wine or champagne and tie a bow to the handles

{the Briella Coat}
The classic camel color is played up with a fun faux fur collar and subtle bow stitching on the back

A big, sparkly bow cuff is the perfect accessory for the holidays!

The Fair

My Darling Fiance and I spent a lovely evening at the fair with two of our close friends. We rode the Ferris Wheel, saw unusually large produce, enjoyed fireworks, and indulged in some fried fair food. From the top of the Ferris Wheel, we could see Downtown Winston-Salem as well as Wake Forest University's Wait Chapel. It was unexpectedly beautiful!

My favorite part was, by far, the fried Oreo cookies! They were piping hot, crispy on the outside, and a little melty on the inside. We added some powdered sugar on top, too.

Playing Matchmaker

A few weeks back, my Darling Fiance and I were attendants in a wedding. He had known the groom since childhood and I had known the bride since I was just a little girl living in California. The first time I met the groom, Jim, he asked me if I had any single friends and I said, "Well, my friend Carrie is really cute!" Fast forward three years, and we watched them become husband and wife! The wedding was truly spectacular. The food, the florals, the dresses, and the band were all lovely. We had a wonderful time dancing, catching up with old friends, celebrating the newlyweds, and eating cake.

This wedding {and these individuals} will always hold a very special place in my heart. They're a perfect match {if I do say so myself}.

These photos were captured by the very talented Troy Grover Photographers
