Craft Time

A fun {and relatively simple} craft idea is a front door wreath. For this particular craft, I picked up a few supplies at Michael's.

I bought a foam wreath, navy blue yarn, a square of white felt, and a square of light blue felt. I used my pink mini hot glue gun, too. All you do is wrap the yarn around the wreath until completely covered. Then, glue on flowers, gems, or whatever your crafty little heart desires {I opted to make flower spirals}. Just glue, let dry, hang, and enjoy!

The Importance of Proper Undergarments

Gals, it's important to be aware of the importance of proper undergarments. Before leaving your home for the day, take a spin in the mirror. Make sure there is no VPL {Visible Panty Lines} and that your bra straps are hidden. There is nothing worse than ruining an entire outfit with improper undergarments!   Additionally, make sure you're wearing the correct bra size. A shocking number of women do not know their correct bra size! I recommend going to Nordstrom. Just go to the lingerie department and ask to be measured. With your bra still on, one of the lovely ladies at Nordstrom will first measure your band size {just under the bottom of your bra} and then measure your cup size {the center of your chest}. They'll let you know your proper size and make some recommendation for bras to try. You'll be more comfortable once you are wearing the proper gear to support the girls.

For the Love of Cereal

My favorite food in the entire world is cereal. I could eat cereal for every meal. My favorites {In no particular order} are:

This might be the perfect cereal accessory.

{I saw this spoon and Pinterest and thought it was perfect}

Throwback Thursday

Patches is a large kitty. He's long and weighs an impressive 15 pounds. When we first adopted Poppy, she was only 4 teeny tiny pounds. Here's a photo that documents their size difference pretty well. Poppy was a crazy kitten, I'm happy she has grown out of that! Now they're the best of friends and can often be found gazing out the window together or taking a nap in the sunshine while cuddling.

Another Year Together

My Darling Fiance and I are celebrating our fourth anniversary as a couple this week. This will be our last anniversary as an engaged couple {yay!} and we agreed to not make it a big thing. I suggested keeping it low key by picking up pizza from our favorite place and popping a bottle of champagne to celebrate being in love. I mean, what's more delicious than pizza and champagne? I'll make his favorite cookies for dessert. Cheers!

A Painting Party

There is a darling little place cleverly called Merlot and VanGogh. It's a place where you {and your friends} can go and they walk you through how to paint a picture {you choose the picture beforehand} and it's B.Y.O.B! You can sit with your girlfriends, drink a glass of wine, and paint a lovely picture for your home. I had a really fun time when I went with a group of girls. We opted for a beach scene. The women who work at Merlot and VanGogh are very kind and helpful. It was a fun and different way to spend an evening with friends.

A Casual Game of Croqet

I love croquet. My family has had a croquet set since I can remember. Growing up, I remember setting up the course in our backyard and playing with family and friends. It's the perfect game to play when the weather is nice. It doesn't take too long, the rules are simple, and you can sip a cocktail while you play. Here are a few action shots from more recent games this summer.

{A particularly awesome action shot of my mom}

{I was bummed because I hit myself in the foot with my mallet}
{Note: I chose a mallet to match my ensemble)

Umbrellas

Upon going through my Pinterest board titled "Art Things," I discovered I have a thing for artwork featuring umbrellas. I've always found the rain to be very soothing and I think a couple walking together under a shared umbrella is a nice, unexpected intimate moment. Here are a few of the pieces, prints, what have you that I enjoyed most.

Throwback Thursday

Ah, my 7th birthday. I'm very blessed with thoughtful parents. Dear old {not so old} mom and dad went above and beyond to make me feel like a princess on my 7th birthday. We drove up to Los Angeles and stayed at the glamorous Century Plaza Hotel. We all dressed for the theatre and watched the stage production of Beauty and the Beast. I was in awe. I loved Princess Belle {my fellow brunette princess} growing up. We had dinner at Trader Vic's. I remember thinking it was THE coolest thing in the world that my beverage was presented to me in a hollowed out pineapple. I loved it. To top it all off, a huge plate of warm cookies {and milk to wash them down} was waiting for me upon our return to our room. I loved my birthday so much! My parents worked so hard to make me feel special and they succeeded in every way.

First Dance

My Darling Fiance and I have been trying very hard to choose a song for our first dance as husband and wife. We did not want a tradtional slow song. We agreed to think of songs that were a bit more upbeat and that we could easily cut short. Not that we don't adore dancing with one another, it's just that neither of us is very comfortable having an entire room of people staring at us for 3-5 minutes. We decided on Ray LaMontagne's "You are the best thing" as our first dance song! This song makes me so happy. It's so upbeat and really explains how I feel about the man I'm going to marry.

Lake Norman

My Darling Fiance and I recently spent the day out on Lake Norman with some friends. The day could not have been more perfect! The weather was sunny with a light breeze {a welcome change from all this rain we've been having} and we were surrounded by good company. I had a wonderful time catching up with friends and tinkering around in my pink inner-tube {that matched my hat and sunglasses, of course}.

Ugh, Monday

Well, Monday is here again. If you're having a tough time navigating your way through this particular Monday morning, here's something to keep in mind.

Cheer up, Buttercup. Before you know it, it'll be 5:00 and you can go home!

The Woes of Being a Woman

Being a woman is hard, especially when it comes to choosing an outfit! On more than one occasion {per week}, I'm faced with a closet full of clothes with nothing to wear. The ultimate female dilemma. In the end, I usually just opt for a navy blue sundress {I tend to gravitate to them when shopping, so I have 5}. Upon sifting through hangers of tops, dresses, skirts, etc., I have to resist the urge to just pull a Cinderella...

Ride in Style

I've been wanting a bicycle for a while. However, I don't really foresee myself taking long bike rides. I envision my future bicycle as a beach cruiser that will leisurely get me from home to Point B {maybe the pool or beach or neighbor's house}.

Upon casually searching the web for my future wheels, I came across a few designer bicycles.

{Missoni}

{Lilly Pulitzer}

{Alice + Olivia}

Maybe, one day, one of these uber-chic two wheelers will be mine.

Throwback Thursday

One of my absolute favorite moments as a child {well, and as an adult, really} is Story Time with my dad. My dad and I read stories together all the time. I would curl up in his lap on the couch or he would read to me before bedtime in my room. From The Animals of Buttercup Farm to Huckleberry Finn, we read across several genres. During Thanksgiving we would read things like Cranberry Thanksgiving. During Christmas, we would read classics The Polar Express, 'Twas The Night Before Christmas, and Santa Mouse. My dad would always make me smile by doing different voices for different characters. He was very skilled! I absolutely adored our Story Time and am very thankful for this Throwback Thursday photo.

Patriot Day

I know that everyone remembers exactly where they were standing when they received the horrific news that there was a terrorist attack on America. It is important to remember those whose lives were lost on this day twelve years ago. Remember the heroes and say a prayer for those who survive them. Hug your friends and family members extra tight today for you're lucky to have them. We are blessed to live in the greatest country in the world. United we stand.

Pistachio Everything

I feel deprived in that until a month ago I had no idea how delicious pistachio-flavored confections are! I've been getting my hands on any sugary treat that is pistachio flavored.

{It all started with a pistachio macaron}

{Then, I moved onto pistachio ice cream}

This has been the best confectionary find in my 25 years!

Patches and Poppy

My Darling Fiance and I have two kitties. First, we adopted Patches around Christmas time after a year of dating. Then, we adopted Poppy for our second anniversary {and to keep Patches company}. My family has always had cats and I am thrilled to have two furry companions of my own. They make me so very happy and I love them very much!

Throwback Thursday

I consider myself to be a budding Domestic Goddess. I love making my home mine by decorating with my personal style and adding unique touches. I enjoy being in the kitchen. I enjoy cooking food for my friends and family very much. I think food is a great way to indulge a little and bring people together at a dinner table. I think my love for the kitchen started at an early age. I would watch my mother cook in awe. She would prepare days in advance for dinner parties for her friends and make the end result look flawless {and taste divine}. My mother and father made me an incredible playhouse, complete with sponge painted walls and a playskool kitchen. This Throwback Thursday photo was snapped the one time I actually played in my playhouse {I had a severe lack of interest on account of all the spiders that would consider my playhouse their abode. Rude}.

Mr. Bear

I could not get into this world sooner. Literally. I was two months premature when I entered this world. Because I was so teeny tiny and my lungs were vastly under-developed, I spend many weeks in an incubator in the NNICU. While I was taking residence in my incubator and gaining strength, I was introduced to my incubator roommate, Mr. Bear. Mr. Bear is a polar bear and he and I have been best buddies for 25 years. He has kept the monsters under the bed at bay and my travel companion since I was born. He is very special to me. If you're lucky enough to have a stuffed animal friend from your childhood, hang onto it.

Wedding Music

Upon planning my wedding, I knew the classic debate of Band vs. D.J. would arise at some point. A few weeks ago, the debate arose and we were forced to make a choice. After weighing the pros and cons of each musical provider, Darling Fiance and I opted for a D.J. Ever since, I've been compiling a list of songs that I'd like played {in no particular order} over the course of the evening. Granted, I fully expect our D.J. to use his judgement {and expertise} and fill in with songs of his recommendation. Here's what's on my list thus far:

Carry on my wayward son - Kansas
Wish you were here - Pink Floyd
Glycerine - Bush
Say hey - Michael Franti
Hotel California - The Eagles
Dancing queen - Abba
China grove - The Doobie Brothers
How bizarre - OMC
Baba O'Riley - The Who
Spice up your life - Spice Girls
Sweet nothing - Florence Welch
I believe when I fall in love - Josh Groban
Everlong - Foo Fighters

Namaste

Mental health is equally important as physical health. I enjoy combining the two by practicing yoga. Yoga is part of my "me time". It's an hour of reconnecting my mind and body through breath and strength.

Practicing yoga makes happy {and a better person}. After yoga I feel stronger, relaxed, and recharged. My muscles tone and my head clears. It's the perfect workout, in my opinion.

"The light within me honors the light within you. Namaste."
